Fat burners – what are they and what do they cause?
Products, which support the process of losing wieght, are commonly called fat burners. The mechanisms of activity of such products can be dual:
stimulating the process of thermogenesis, i.e. the production of heat, which is connected with increased burning of energy substrates. It has to be explained that human body has the possibility of gaining energy from such components, like carbohydrates, fatty acids and amino acids not only in a form of ATP, but also in a form of heat. Fat burners are usually also thermogenic and strengthen the process of production of heat, which is connected with stimulating the secretion of catecholamines, such as noradrenalin, blocking their breakdown (by blocking the catechol-O-methyltrasferase enzyme) and increasing the activity of the uncoupling proteins (UCP-1). The key substances with the thermogenic activity are following: caffeine, tea catechins, capsaicin from cayenne pepper, synephrine from bitter oranges and others.
increasing the psychomotor activity and improving the efficiency – substances, such as the mentioned caffeine, found in the products of such type, stimulate to action, decrease the feeling of tiredness and make it possible to do harder training, which causes higher energy expenditure.
Do women need other approach?
Thermogenic products are active, independently from gender. In other words, both men and women can benefit from using them, provided they are sensible to the substances found in them. For example, people who are resistant to caffeine, may not feel the positive results of including thermogenics in diet. It concerns men and women probably on the same level. It is the first matter worth remembering. The other concerns the recipes of products available on the market – some are dedicated to the female part of the potential consumers. Is such differentiation justified?
Well, dividing slimming products from the “fat burner” group into those for women and men is not usually based on rational reasons. It sometimes happens that the thermogenics dedicated to women contain smaller doses of active substances but are definitely not cheaper. The producers sometimes add some “female” component, for balance, like l-carnitine or chromium, which has no significant influence on the female part of society. At least, it's not proven.
“Fat burners” are the products, which may be good in case of women and men. However, women don't need other recipes of such products, or different doses. The matter of sensibility to the component found in them is not the matter of sex.
